Aston Villa v Stoke Preview and Odds

Aston Villa are at home to Stoke in the Premier League in the 16:00 kick off, which is  being shown live on skysports 1 HDSky Sports 1 HD

Back-to-back home wins have moved Villa into a comfortable mid-table position well above the relegation zone. A third successive victory at Villa Park would all but secure their Premier League status for next season.

Last weekend’s 1-0 win against Chelsea was shrouded in controversy as Willian received an undeserved red card before Ramires and Jose Mourinho were both sent off in the dying minutes. Villa, however, were deserved victors and Fabian Delph’s brilliant goal eight minutes from time was worthy of winning any match.

Paul Lambert’s side have now won three of their last four home games with Delph scoring twice and Christian Benteke netting three in the same period.

Stoke come into the game with the same number of points as their hosts after they picked up an invaluable three points in last weekend’s game against West Ham, despite going 1-0 down in the opening five minutes. A Peter Odemwingie double and one from Marko Arnautovic giving the Potters a 3-1 win.

On the road, Mark Hughes’ side have struggled this season, however. Not since late September have Stoke won an away game in a run that stretches 14 matches in all competitions, while they’ve lost five of their last seven Premier League away games.

With Adam and Walters suspended, the ineligibility of Stephen Ireland will hit Stoke hard and leave them short of quality in midfield. Coupled with their poor away record and Villa’s buoyancy following their victory over Chelsea the home win at odds of 11/10 looks to be a standout bet. Stoke are quoted at 11/4 with the draw 9/4.

In the first goalscorer market Benteke is 7/2 and Odemwingie 8/1.
